MOS Tech Brief

MOS Tech Brief

Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is a key VoIP quality metric, attempting to capture the complex nature of speech quality in a single metric… but there are many ways to calculate and measure MOS, some of which don’t take into account the significant effects echo, delay, noise, call volume, and clipping have on user-perceived conversation-quality. Certain MOS algorithms are designed only for specific applications, and when used outside their intended scope scores can significantly misrepresent reality.

This tech brief explains the origin of MOS, it’s intended use, and the variety of standards-based algorithms commonly used to calculate it; each is explained with a simplified block diagram showing the test layout used, along with their strengths and weaknesses in various applications. Also covered are the impacts analog and IP input measurements have on MOS, and which algorithms are best suited to measuring speech quality as callers perceive it.

I'm truly enjoying the design and layout of your site. It's a very easy
on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here
and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create
your theme? Great work!
